Celeste and student reading.

Helping children K-8 develop reading, writing, and math skills using stories, games, and creative expression.

I take a team approach to tutoring by partnering with caretakers and educators to assess a child’s needs, develop a plan, and monitor progress. I frequently integrate art and music into sessions. In a typical tutoring session students might play number games, build, draw, write, sing, or move in ways that engage different parts of the brain.

I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham reading method by the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education. The Orton-Gillingham approach incorporates hearing, touch, sight and movement to help students connect language with letters and written words. This method is used widely to help teach students with dyslexia. I have also received the first and second level of training in the Wired for Reading program. Wired for Reading is an evidence based program using linguistics to teach students the structure of language and phonics.

In math, I incorporate games, hands on projects, and real-world problems to help students deepen their understanding and increase their fluency and confidence.

I offer both in-person and online tutoring. To learn more about my tutoring services or to schedule an initial assessment please click below.

About Celeste

I received my Masters in Teaching from Seattle University and BA from Oberlin College where I focused on Studio Art. I am a Washington State Certificated Teacher and a Certified Kid’s Yoga Instructor. Prior to becoming a tutor, I was a classroom teacher for eight years in independent and public elementary schools in the Seattle area. I also taught and authored curricula for the Pacific Science Center. I work with neurotypical students, students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and students on the Autism Spectrum. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy being home with my 2 year old daughter and husband, being active outdoors, gardening, cooking, and making art.
